Reindeer is probably the most photographed animal in Lapland. It is easy to photograph as a subject, because as a semi-domesticated animal you can get very close to it.

However, the escape reaction may occur quite easily, e.g., as a result of sudden movement and careless walking towards you. Then the hood and neck rise up and the flight begins, at the same time, papayas also easily start flying from the rear end of the animal.

Reindeer herding is a part of Lapland's history, culture and present day, it is also a controversial and emotional business. For tourists, the reindeer represents Lapland and its magic.

With this picture, I personally want to approach an animal I've known since childhood warmly and as an outside observer. For the photographer, reindeer are part of the landscape and the circle of life on which the Lapland circle of life is based.

The reindeer in the picture, a rough vaadi, a vaami, i.e. an adult female reindeer, is coming towards you lightly running, i.e. hooting. I was on the ground in a small depression and the reindeer came towards me, so I was able to take a picture from a slightly different angle than usual.

The nomenclature of reindeer of different ages and sexes is a chapter of its own, as is the rest of the vocabulary related to reindeer husbandry.
